2009 ONAM 2009 Aug 29, 2009 - The Onam celebrations for 2009 was held at Akins High School on Aug 29th Saturday from 4pm onwards. About 550 people were entertained by the cultural programs put together by our talented artists from the Malayalee community. Maveli graced us with his presence again this year and was gracious enough to draw two lucky winners for the raffle draw from Skypass. Last but not least, we had the traditional Onam Sadhya served in three sittings for the community. Photos of the event are available at: GAMA PICNIC May 09, 2009 - GAMA's Annual Picnic 2009 was held at Elizabeth Milburn park in Cedar Park this year. We had about 150 people show up for a day filled with fun and games. Food arrangements ranged from the traditional BBQ grilling to special menu items for the vegetarians as well. This year, we introduced a special Dessert competition called "Sweet Delight" for our members. We had 12 great dishes to showcase - the judges had a really tough time selecting the top 3. Games were held by the sports team for the young and the old alike. Photos for the event shall be published shortly. SAREGAMA 2009 Apr 25, 2009 - SAREGAMA 2009, GAMA's annual talent festival, set new records in terms of number of participants and total admission. Austin's malayalee community came together to put up a highly entertaining show that saw more than 100 participants present a cultural extravaganza. The event showcased a good mix of dances, songs and skits from several different age groups. The quality of the programs that our community showcased this year reached new heights and our enthusiastic audience encouraged them with cheers and applause. Along with the song and dance, the food stall provided some excellent treats: kappa/meen, vada, samosa etc. Annual Carroms Tournament 2009 Mar 21, 2009 - The GAMA Annual Carroms tournament was held at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center in Round Rock. We had more than 40 participants in various categories - Men's and Women's singles as well as Adult doubles. Details of the tournament and results are available here 2008 X'MAS Dec 06, 2008 - The program was replete with wonderful performances and featured an inspirational message from Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago. Over 500 people journeyed with us through an unforgettable display of Kerala's legendary performing arts and delighted in the sumptious Ona Sadhya! Photos of the event are available here. SAREGAMA May 3, 2008 - Over 65 participants dazzled us with the arts of dance, music and fashion at the 2008 SAREGAMA program! Read the list of best performances in the May Newsletter. Photos can be viewed here. GAMA PICNIC April 19, 2008 - With clear skies, mouth-watering food, thrilling games, and good company- what more could we ask for the 2008 GAMA picnic? The picnic was truly a celebration of all things Austin... Malayalee style! Check out pictures from the picnic here. 2007 X'MAS Dec 1st, 2007 - Over 350 Austin Malayalees gathered to celebrate one of the biggest holidays of the year - Christmas. The evening was filled with various performances, a beautiful Christmas message from Sijo Vaddakkan and a visit from Santa Claus. Photos of the event are available here. ONAM Sept 8th, 2007 - The 2007 celebration of our harvest festival Onam, was celebrated with grandeur and pomp. It was wonderful to see such a tremendous turnout and participation at the event. We had a record number of over 500 people. Every performance was well received and applauded by the audience. A special word of thanks extends to all our participants who unfolded the best of Kerala culture and tradition through their world class performances. Photos of the event are available here. SAREGAMA May 5th, 2007 - Our own cultural evening, SAREGAMA 2007 was a resounding success! For an event that was unique and first of its kind, the response was splendid. The evening set stage to an array of 33 scintillating programs, featuring talented artists within our community. Dance forms ranging from Indian classical "Bharatnatyam", "Kuchipudi", "Mohiniattam" to the "Kuttanadan Men's folk dance", Fashion Show representing traditional dresses from across India, Skits, Songs, Poetry recitals, Fancy dress and various other group performances enthralled audience for four hours. At the same function, we honored Dr E.C.G Sudarshan on being conferred the Padma Vibhusan Award from the President of India. Photos of the event are available here. GAMA PICNIC April 21st 2007 - Indeed a beautiful sunny day to take a break from the frenzied pace of life and relax in an outdoor setting. With over 45 families attending the annual picnic, it was a wonderful opportunity for all to mingle, make new friends and have loads of fun. We were kept busy with a variety of games planned by the sports committee. Running race, relay, balloon throw, treasure hunt, and musical chair to name a few. The picnic drew to a close with the traditional grand finale of the Tug-of-war. Thank you to all who attended the picnic and joined in the fun. You can view the pictures online. 2006 X'MAS & End-of-Year Meeting of Members The Annual Meeting of Members was held at the Christmas event to elect the board of directors and officers for 2007. We hope everyone can help the new directors in organizing and conducting programs on behalf of GAMA. ONAM The Onam program was held at Murchison Middle School on September 9, 2006. Thanks to everybody who helped with the performances and with the Onam feast.
