Newsletter Committee

Description: Newsletter Committee has two openings as Junior Editors / Journalists for members of the GYG.

they contribute.
Objective of the committee: The newsletter committee is responsible for communicating all the important events,
updates and news of Greater Austin Malayalee Association to the Malayalee community of Austin.
The newsletter is published once a month and sent to the GAMA members via email.
Apart from the announcements, with columns such as 'get creative' we try to encourage the community to participate by
contributing articles, poems, travelogues etc. The committee also tries to conduct exciting competitions through the
newsletter. It is an excellent platform to enhance and develop your editing and communication skills while contributing
significantly to GAMA.
Responsibilities: Reviewing, editing and organizing the newsletter content;
Assist with photo editing and designing; Writing content for the newsletter; encouraging the community members to
participate and contribute articles
Basic Requirements from the Youth Candidate: Ability to express ideas clearly in writing;
Creativity and self motivation; excellent communication skills; Microsoft Office/ Basic Computer Skills; Ability to meet
deadlines and maintain a pro-active attitude.
Sponsorship Committee
Number of Positions: 2
Directors: Sijith Ganga, Dhev Kollanur, Sebi Paul, Ravi Ramachandran, Manasi Menon
Mission Statement: Raise funds to support all GAMA activities by obtaining grants and sponsorships.
Responsibilities: Assist in development of a sponsorship structure; Assist in soliciting and contacting potential sponsors;
Help Sponsors understand how GAMA sponsorship program can benefit them; Create sponsorship target lists.
Benefits: GAMA believes the youth program will help our youth develop valued real world skills and create responsible
community members and citizens. The sponsorship committee offers an excellent opportunity to network with various
community members and organizations. It is a good place to improve your leadership and communication skills.
Most importantly it would expose you to the financial workings of an organization.
Sports Committee
Number of Positions: 3

Description: Sports Committee has 2-3 openings as Junior Games Coordinators for members of the GYG.

contribute.
Objective of the committee: The sports/games committee is responsible for conducting sport
tournaments and games/fun activities for the members of Greater Austin Malayalee Association of Austin.
One of the main events for the sports committee is the GAMA picnic to be held in April-May.
In the past, we have conducted Carrom and 56 (card game) tournaments. It is an excellent platform to develop skills in
conducting and managing public events, thereby providing a leadership opportunity.
Responsibilities: Create activities for events such as GAMA picnic;
Organize different activities through the course of the year; Solicit volunteers and coordinate their activities during events;
Setup registration desk, keep track of score, announce winners etc... things involved in managing a tournament

Movie Committee

Description: The Movie Committee would like you to explain on the application on why you want
to be an Intern and how you can contribute.
Objective of the committee: The Movie Committee is responsible for bringing Malayalam movies
to Austin. We work in conjunction with theaters to screen the movies as well coordinate the sales of the tickets to our
Malayalee audience.
Responsibilities: The Youths will actively participate at the theaters to assist the audience. The youth will need to have good public communication skills.
Benefit: The Movie Committee offers an excellent opportunity to network with various community members and organizations. It is a good opportunity to improve your leadership and communication skills while learning what it takes to screen a movie.
Media Committee

Requirement Description: The Media Committee would like you to explain on your application why you want to be involved in the committee and how you can contribute.
Objective of the committee: Media team portfolio consists of providing audio, lighting,
video capturing, still photos capturing during GAMA events.
Audio: before program starts- cabling between room and stage as well as arrange sound mixers, speakers, microphones and
projectors. Operate equipment during program and unwind, repack and load items after program.
Lighting: Day before the show check with the venue tech director for lighting needs. Rent out additional lighting if needed.
Give directions to venue tech director to position the existing lights as required.
Operate and dismantle before and after the show.
Video Capturing: Arrange equipments like video camera, tripod, power supply and cabling to record sound directly
to video camera for audio clarity. Also enlists the help of two talented videographers.
Edit the video after the event.
Still Photo: Enlist two committed and talented photographers for our events and help them with their needs
Responsibilities: We need youths to help before and after the programs to fix and unwind
equipment as needed. This kind of job requires brief technical knowledge and a keen interest in this field.
Benefits: We can offer volunteering hours, exposure to a technical environment,
appreciate and recognize those who display a helping attitude. The committee offers an excellent opportunity
to network with various community members while learning the technical aspects of a program.
Malayalam Classes Committee

Requirement Description: The committee would like you to explain on your application
why you want to be involved in the Malayalam classes and how you can contribute
Objective of the committee: to provide Malayalam classes to our community and attain a basic
understanding of our language.
Responsibilities: We need youths to help during the Malayalam classes.
We will also need youths to participate in our display of what we have learned at the Onam Event.
Benefits: We offer volunteering hours and an exposure to our language while providing an
opportunity to network with our community.
